Cultural Activities

Here are a few of the cultural activities that we offer….

Quesadilla bread

This local bakery with a traditional fire oven provides a tour for students and they prepare quesadilla bread, a traditional sweet bread of El Savador.

Tortilla and Pupusa Making

There are many foods that are unique to Central America, and students are able to help prepare them using ingredients and techniques that are unfamiliar. 



Indigo Demonstration

In El Salvador, dying fabrics with naturally occurring, indigo is an ancient art. There are shops that give a presentation to the students on how the the natural dyes are derived from the plant and how designs are created using the ink to dye clothing. 


Salsa
Dancing

Salsa dancing is a Latin American dance tradition. A salsa dance instructor in Guatemala will lead a session in which students will be exposed to Spanish salsa music and will be taught the basic steps for salsa dancing.
